Using the Quicklink/Article Widget

Here is information about a really handy tool that makes it a LOT easier to do quicklinks. It also makes it easier to do reprints too.

if you don't have the widget on your toolbar, you are strongly encouraged to add it. Using this tool makes adding a quicklink a lot faster and easier.

Here's how it works for a quicklink:
Go to the web page of an article
click on the button on your browser bookmark toolbar. That will grab the title and the URL for a quicklink, and offer you a field to plug in your description. You can write one or just copy/paste some of the text. Quicklinks usually allow 850 characters-- about 160-180 words. You are encouraged to use as much of that as you can.
There is a tool that make it easy to grab an image from the article. Usually, it works. But if the remote image cannot be grabbed, you can use the image gallery search tool or the image upload tool.

How it works for reprinting an article
More and more websites now say, at the bottom of their front page, that they have a creative commons (CC) policy, which allows reprinting without asking permission, as long as the linkback to the article is included.

So, to use the widget to reprint an article, go to the article page, copy the text, including the images and videos, then click on the widget.
Select the author

After selecting the author, the article submission page will appear, with the title already in place, and with a link to the article. Since the text has the link embedded in it, we suggest shortening the link. Here's an example.

To shorten it: indianexpress.com

Sometimes the title includes the website name too. Please, always remove the website name from the title

Next Paste in the text and images you copied. Sometimes it will all "take" and sometimes you have to re-do the images. If the images are copyrighted, from AP or NYTimes, getty images, or the like, DO NOT use them. You can use the image gallery search tool to find new ones.

Otherwise, you do the article like any other article you'd post.

If you haven't added the widget to your toolbar, please do.
